Built in 1942 by the United States Army, Stansted Airport was originally used to station over 600 bombers. Now, some 60 years later, Stansted is the fastest growing commercial airport in Europe, sending over 20 million passengers to 124 destinations around the world. It is home to the leading low-cost airlines, partly responsible for the recent boom in travel.
